Following the match between Peterhead FC and Greenock Morton FC on 29 November 2025, a Greenock Morton official reported an alleged incident of racial abuse directed at a Morton player. The incident was said to have occurred immediately after the player in question received a red card and was leaving the field of play. The Morton official, seated in the Main Stand at Balmoor, believed they had heard a spectator refer to the colour of the player’s skin in a shout of abuse during what was a highly charged moment in the match.
The official informed the player after he had left the pitch and reported the matter to both Peterhead FC representatives and the match officials at full time.
Peterhead FC, working with Police Scotland, subsequently carried out a thorough investigation into the events. A camera recording the match was positioned directly behind the witness and this recording was provided to Police Scotland for detailed analysis. While the footage captures clear shouting towards the pitch, no racist language can be identified.
Individuals seated in the Main Stand at the time, including supporters of both clubs as well as officials located near the witness, were interviewed. No one reported hearing anything of a racist nature.
We appreciate that the Morton official reported the matter in good faith, and we thank both clubs’ staff, supporters, the SFA and Police Scotland for their cooperation throughout the investigation. However, no further evidence has been found to corroborate the report, and the SFA now deem the matter closed.
Peterhead FC maintains a zero-tolerance stance on racism within our stadium and wishes to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that Balmoor remains a safe and welcoming environment for all.
