Peterhead welcome Queen of the South to Balmoor this Saturday evening in a later-than-usual kick-off, with the match being broadcast live on BBC Alba.
This marks the first home meeting of the season between the sides, with the previous encounter back in August seeing the Blue Toon travel to Dumfries, where Peter Murphy’s side came away with an emphatic 4–0 win.
With both teams currently locked on 13 points after the first quarter of the campaign, Saturday’s clash carries extra weight. A win could see either side leapfrog the other and gain valuable momentum heading into the next phase of the season.
Peterhead will be looking to make the most of their strong home form, and co-managers Jordon and Ryan will be eager to see their side bounce back and pick up three crucial points in front of the home support.
From Ryan Strachan: “This week’s game is particularly exciting for a number of reasons. First is the opportunity to put last weeks dismal outing behind us, we have had a pretty solid weeks training and went over some points briefly so it’s important we learn and show character to rebound. The next key point is the last time we faced Queens it was the same outcome as last weeks albeit we competed a little bit better down in Dumfries, especially for 30 minutes. We were well beaten that day but we can take great encouragement in that we created a number of good chances that day combining with better team structure and physicality tomorrow we hope to show Queens we are a strong team. Another piece of excitement for the club and its supporters is that we have the BBC Alba crew up for the game, it’s been a few years since we hosted a televised game so we get to showcase the Balmoor pitch, facilities and hopefully a well executed footballing display to make them want to return. We do hope the supporters can turn up in numbers tomorrow as it helps create atmosphere about the place and encourage the return of BBC. Lastly we find this tie very exciting due to the nature of the league table. Yes, we sit in a position that doesn’t look particular competitive however we’re only 4 points off top of table and with others playing each other there is a really good chance to bridge gaps, cement a place in top 4 and continue forward momentum.
Team news. We are finally seeing improvements.
Andy McCarthy returns as does Craig McGuffie.
Seb Ross is now ok however misses the next two league games due to family commitments.
Adam Carnwath is progressing nicely and should return to full training next week.
Danny, David Wilson and Aaron Steele all have overcome injuries and knocks respectively from their injury periods.
Pete is getting ever closer and working very hard at the training ground, he could be included in training next week non- contact and is around 4 weeks away from returning to squad.
Cieran Dunne remains unavailable to train.”
