Peterhead make the long journey South to Dumfries on Saturday to face an opponent that they haven’t met since April 2023 when they last played Queen of the South in League One.
Both teams have started the campaign with a win and loss leaving them both on 3 points apiece albeit Peterhead two places ahead in the league table on goal difference.
It was a good showing from the Blue Toon in their 4-2 KDM Evolution Trophy win against Aberdeen B midweek and Jordon and Ryan will be looking for more of the same commitment and drive that was on diplay on Tuesday night as they face another full-time team tomorrow .
From Jordon Brown: “We are looking forward to another very testing away trip to a full time team but this is the challenges the group have earned the right to be involved in regularly this season. The squad has come a long way since our last visit to Palmerston only just over 2 years ago and that is something we will be looking to further show our progressions by achieving a positive result.
This week has looked different for us as we adapt to the new schedule with the first of 6 challenge cup group stage games. However, it has been a positive week with a really encouraging and professional performance to get 3 points to kick off the group and also allowed us to freshen up the group in terms of game time, travel time and specific training requirements.
There were a number of excellent individual performances which creates further competition within the squad and that is exactly where we want to get to with everyone pushing each other to improve and making more positive contributions going into the vital league games each weekend.
We of course were disappointed with the outcome and result at Inverness and as a group we have to learn from these quickly which leads us onto a similar challenge this weekend where we will look to demonstrate that learnings and make improvements to reach higher levels of performance. The guys are all hungry to contribute and pick up our first away points of the season back at league 1 level.
Queen of the south will also be disappointed with their result last weekend so we will need to ensure we are focused on the task at hand from the off and expect a reaction especially in front of their home crowd again.
Squad news there is some confirmed disappointment with Pete who is going to miss the foreseeable as he requires surgery on a torn pectoral muscle which has been a really unfortunate outcome from the innocuous challenge in the East Fife game. This is clearly a blow as this is now the 3rd season in a row we have suffered an injury requiring surgery in the first game but the squad has demonstrated each year the strength in depth throughout these periods and this season will be no different with guys eager to step up. Cieran Dunne is improving and outwith that the squad is gelling together more and more”.
