Peterhead v East Fife match preview

Aug 1, 2025

The William Hill League One season kicks off tomorrow against a very familiar foe as East fife are the vistors to Balmoor.

Both teams went head to head to be crowned champions last season with the Blue Toon winning out in the penultimate game of the campaign against the Fifers at Balmoor, edging it 1-0 with a Peter Pawlett goal clinching the title on the day and ultimately only a point separating the two teams at the end of the season.

Dick Campbell’s team did prevail in the play-offs, winning the final to gain promotion to League One, therefore it is fitting that they head to Balmoor again tomorrow for the first match and unfurling of the League flag in what is bound to be another competitive match between the two newly promoted sides.

From Jordon Brown: “First and foremost it is brilliant to be preparing for a League 1 fixture for the first time in 2 years and everyone knows that this is the minimum level the club wants to be competing at. Being flag day it will be another special occasion which I am sure Balmoor will give us another strong home backing. However the squads full focus is on getting off to a positive start and picking up points, even more so after the way the results went in the league cup. The group is full of ambition with everyone wanting to continually improve and hungry to get back to winning ways. The importance of a good start in the league and especially home form cannot be underestimated as we have shown in the past couple of seasons.

It is of course ironic and adds even more competitiveness that it is against East Fife with the last home league game being such a historic day for the club. But we don’t want to rest on our laurels at all, we want to continue the upward trajectory and it is now time to put that to fruition, there is an excitement to show we are capable of being competitive in League 1 where we start to mix it with 4 full time teams and the others who are established league 1 teams. The core of both teams is really similar to the ones that competed against each other last year so we have had a good full weeks training and preparation ready to hit the ground running.

Squad wise we have had our share of defensive issues and guys at different stages of match sharpness but we will give everyone the best chance of making it tomorrow. Jack Brown and David Wilson came through training so that is a real positive. Competition for places amongst the squad is really high and that in turn can only be a positive for driving performances to the new levels required”.
