Peterhead head to Ochilview on Saturday for the final match in the group stage of the Premier Sports Cup.
Neither side can progress from this round but the Blue Toon will be hoping to put points on the board after failing to pick up any lasy weekend when Clyde scored twice in injury time to take all three points down the road.
The Warriors have also had a difficult campaign but came away with a point in their last match with a draw against Clyde, missing out on an extra pont after failing to win the penalty shoot-out.
Although neither side have anything to play for, it is a good opportunity to get minutes in the squad and to assess the team against a side that they will face four times in the upcoming season in League One.
From Ryan Strachan: “After a really disappointing end to last week’s game we’ve had a week to recharge, analyse and get a good weeks training.
Last weekend was a game we were very comfortable in until the very end where some long balls came into our box and we failed to manage the situation. Disappointing as if the last two games had ended at 93 minutes we’d be sitting with 4/5 points and possibility of qualifying with a win tomorrow. That’s not the case and it’s important we learn from these tough lessons and continue to develop as a team. It’s been a harsh few games result wise and these small moments of madness are the difference in margins.
Tomorrow’s game is exciting, it gives us a chance to look at opponents in our league who did very well last season and have a very experienced manager. From our side, it’s important we try to polish off some of the rust that’s still showing in our performances and try to focus on first of all getting a positive result but also a more solidified performance for 90 minutes rather than in spurts. Some players have played every game, some still need minutes so we’re aware of the pre-season nature in getting minutes – we can’t qualify but have our 1st league game next weekend so we need to try to gain some momentum so will therefore look to play a well balanced team.
Injury wise David Wilson trained this week so will likely come into the squad, Cieran Dunne is recovering nicely but won’t be risked. Jack Brown has also started light running and is progressing but won’t be risked due to nature of injury location”.
