Peterhead head to Fir Park tomorrow to face Motherwell in their second Premier Sports Cup match of the group stage after a 4-2 loss against Greenock Morton at the weekend.
The two sides have not met competitively since January 1950 so this is one to look forward to for the Blue Toon fans who will be making the midweek journey for a 7.45pm KO.
Jens Berthel Askou’s Premier League men will be looking to stamp their authority early over the visitors after their first cup match in the group yielded only two points against League Two opponents Clyde, after winning a penalty shootout at New Douglas Park in his first competitive game in charge.
From Co-Manager Jordon Brown: “As a whole group we are really looking forward to getting back out there against premier league opposition, it is the games you want to test yourselves in. We were all disappointed with Saturdays outcome but of course there are a lot of factors for that including the challenge of part time vs full time at this stage of the season where that extra bit of match sharpness and training time can be more evident. We are really confident in the group we have and are sure these tough opening couple of fixtures will set us in good stead for the 2 final group games and of course the most important thing is we have as many players up to speed and firing as possible come the first league game. Motherwell will also be looking to bounce back from their result at the weekend and we are sure they will look to start quickly in the managers first competitive home game.
We are still assessing Cieran Dunne, it looks to just be impact and he is working closely with Donal to minimise the amount of games he misses, we won’t take any risks at this stage. Jason returns to the squad to give us more central defensive options, Div Wilson is getting closer and we will get Kieran Shanks integrated back in as soon as we can as he is itching to go”
