Peterhead v Spartans

Apr 11, 2025

Peterhead welcome The Spartans to Balmoor on Saturday in William Hill League 2 with a 3pm KO.

Dougie Samuel’s team currently sit in 5th place but a race for a play-off place is very much on as they only sit 3 points adrift of Elgin City who face Edinburgh City in a second v third clash at Meadowbank this weekend.

Peterhead are in pole position going into this fixture, four points clear at the top of the table and unbeaten in ten, however the opponents on Saturday are the only team to have beaten them since the turn of the year so the Blue Toon will need to show the same fighting spirit that has seen them reach the league summit in this penultimate home game of the normal season.

From Jordon Brown: “Another week comes round and we are already at the stage where we hope this will be the penultimate home game at Balmoor in what has been another really productive season. It’s an exciting time and you can feel that positivity around the club but within the group there is full awareness that we have achieved nothing yet and the guys can’t wait to get back out their tomorrow with the same hunger, desire and quality they have consistently shown. Of course at this stage each game comes with more importance and a different challenge but the guys have embraced that so far. Everyone knows the respect we have for Dougie and his team and we know how tough an opponent they will be. They still have a big opportunity to reach the play offs, which would have been at a minimum where we expected them to be so the preparation has been as detailed as it always is. Once again though we have to show our motivation to remain top of the league and get over the line is greater than our opponents motivation, added in to the fact we know Spartans are the only team to inflict defeat on us in 2025 and with the way the season ended against them last year, there is always a real competitive edge that we are driven to come out on top in.
Full focus is on the here and now and we must kick on again from last week, taking confidence from the manner of our victory and making slight tweaks to ensure we are improving and developing against different opponents.
The squad is raring to go minus Shanks who frustratingly sits out the last of his suspension, Danny who tweaked his hamstring last week, and Caleb is unlikely to feature with an ankle injury.
At times like these, even more so when there is an enjoyable pressure on the group, the difference a big crowd and atmosphere can make is invaluable. You see Balmoor or away ends filling up more and more as we approach the season finale and it really does help the players find that extra percentages that are needed at this stage in a season. Our aim once again tomorrow is to put on a performance that everyone can be proud of and ultimately achieve another 3 points closer to our end goal!”
