It’s the long trek South for Peterhead this Saturday as they head to Stair Park to take on Stranraer for the fourth and final time this season.
Chris Aitken’s team had been on a good run of form of form with three wins on the bounce until 10 men Forfar Athletic derailed their momentum taking all three points in a rescheduled Tuesday night game which ended 2-1 leaving Stranraer in seventh place, ten points above the relegation play-off place.
The Blue Toon go into this fixture unbeaten in five and sitting only one point below the top of the table after an impressive 2-0 win against Elgin City last weekend.
From Co-Manager Ryan Strachan: “After last week’s efforts it’s been a really positive week for us and we feel like we have momentum on our side at the moment. We were very strong last weekend against a really good Elgin team and deserved our win. It’s important while the chips are high that we ride that wave as long as possible. The players deserve great credit as they’ve really stepped up recently and delivered some strong performances.
Tomorrows match will be a difficult challenge as it always is down there. Stranraer are also the form team in the league albeit losing during the week to 10 men. That can happen in this league, every team is capable and you must have ultimate focus each week and minute on that pitch. We’re aware of the pitch condition so we must be able to adapt and find a way to take points up the road with us. It will be difficult Stranraer will be hurting from during the week but we’ve had good training this week and the squad is focused.
Team news, Oliver Colloty will miss as he continues to shirk off the flu. Pete Pawlett will also miss out as he aggravated his ankle playing through the pain barrier last weekend. Ben armour misses out but has upped his intensity in training this week after his operation and is looking well, we expect him to return to full training in the next couple of weeks. Jamie Walker has recovered from a hamstring injury but we must be careful with him on a heavy pitch and travel”.
