Forfar Athletic 1 Peterhead 1

Dec 18, 2024

It was a quick turnaround for the Blue Toon as they looked to build on momentum from a win against the league leaders as they travelled to face bottom of the league Forfar Athletic at Station Park. Despite being at the foot of the table, the hosts ran riot against Bonnyrigg Rose on Saturday as they were 5-1 winners against the Edinburgh side, whilst Peterhead kept a first clean sheet in 7 games as they beat East Fife by a goal. There was one change to the Peterhead starting eleven as Jack Brown replaced Max Barry in the line-up.

The first half was one of very few chances with Peterhead dominating the play without creating much. Stuart Morrison headed wide from a free kick before Seb Ross fired over the bar from 25 yards. There were calls for a Peterhead penalty as Andy McCarthy went down in the area, but Kieran Shanks played on and forced a fine save from Marc McCallum with an acrobatic effort. The game really came to life in first half added time with a moment of madness. Firstly, Shanks put Peterhead in front with a goal of the season contender as he fired a half volley into the top corner from 20 yards out. During the celebrations of the goal, McCarthy kicked the ball away which inadvertently hit McCallum in the back of the head and the referee sent the Peterhead captain off.

Half Time: Forfar Athletic 0-1 Peterhead

The second half was always going to be a tough ask for Peterhead with 10 men as Forfar looked to press on and make an equaliser, however the visitors limited the Loons to very few clear cut chances. Josh Skelly headed wide before Russell McLean also missed the target from 12 yards out. The best chance of the game fell to Morrison but he somehow managed to fire over the bar from around a yard out. With 10 minutes to go, Forfar found an equaliser as a long ball forward from a free kick was headed down by McLean into the path of Nathan Cannon, who slot the ball past Blessing Oluyemi in the Peterhead goal. A resolute performance from the Blue Toon for the final 15 minutes ensured we left with a point.
