Peterhead head into the 3rd round of the Scottish Gas Mens Scottish Cup tomorrow facing a Montrose side who are familiar foes of the Blue Toon having played the Angus side 57 times since PFC joined the SPFL, this will be the first time however that the two sides have met in the Scottish Cup. Montrose currently sit 6th in League One although only 2 points from top and come into this game following a 2-1 win against Annan Athletic in their last league outing.
From Ryan Strachan: “Back to cup duties after last weeks cancellation in the league. The players had a small rest last weekend but have had a good week’s training this week. We will look to use that small lay off and freshness to our advantage tomorrow in a one off cup tie against an established league 1 outfit.
Anytime the Scottish cup comes about there is an excitement, especially for the smaller teams who have an opportunity to advance and get a glamour tie. Tomorrow will be no different, even though we face a robust league 1 team we have demonstrated this season already we’re competitive at that level by beating Kelty Hearts away and Dumbarton at home.
Squad news is similar to previous weeks where we are in a relatively strong position for selection. Danny Strachan is still struggling but has upped his rehabilitation considerably this week and might be ok to train next week. I continue to try to strengthen a lower back/gluten issue that is very persistent. Other than that the squad is good.
Hopefully the supporters can come along and cheer the team on and the positivity can be felt by the players and give us the best chance to progress as cup competitions mean a lot to the club”.
