This game had it all and it was a game that was great for the football neutral. A red card, missed penalty, a scored penalty, 12 yellow cards and one red card, add that to that a mix of chances created and missed by both sides.
Peterhead’s afternoon went from good to bad before it swung the other way. A penalty was awarded to The Blue Toon after 20 mins, Max Barry struck the ball and keeper Galston made a fine stop to his left. A severe chance missed. From this Stirling ran up the park and were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area. Young Adam Brown took it and it evaded everyone; the ball finding it’s way into the net past McKenzie. Such was this instant calamity Peterhead were starting to look a little shell shocked. Peterhead then lost a second goal as space was given to Joshua Kerr in the middle of the park he ran in and rifled a long range shot past McKenzie. It was now a big gap and the crucial next goal was the key to this match.
The fightback began just before half time when Jason Brown was in the right place to slide the ball into the net from close range. This was what was needed as into the second half it was to prove vital in the scoring. Shots from Peter Pawlett and Andy McCarthy with a volley was the sign of things to come early on after the break. Now it was all the Blue Toon and Cammy Smith got the equaliser after 69 mins. The ball fell at his feet and he unleashed a strong shot which caressed the back of the net. There now was only going to be one winner and so it arrived 16 mins from the end. Aaron Wier mistimed his challenge inside his own area, he was ordered off by the referee and McAllister, just on as a substitute, placed his shot the opposite side of Gaston to put the Bue Toon in the lead.
With the game entering the dying minutes of injury time, Cieran Dunne picked up the ball inside the Peterhead half and ran as fast as he could. He evaded his defender and found himself one on one with the keeper, but Gaston was there this time to save the ball for any further embarrassment and Peterhead claimed the three points in fine style.
