Peterhead v Dumbarton

Sep 6, 2024

Peterhead face Dumbarton tomorrow in the thirs round of the SPFL Trust trophy with a 3pm KO.

The two teams know each other well after facing off 4 times in the SPFL League 2 campaign last season. Although the Blue Toon had the measure of their league 2 counterparts winning three games from four and finishing above them at the end of the season in 2nd place with the Sons in 3rd, it was Dumbarton who were promoted via the play-offs.

From Ryan Strachan: “Tomorrow’s match presents a small break from league duty and onto a knock-out fixture against a team we know well from last years campaign. Dumbarton appear to have strengthened what was already a really competitive squad so we are well aware we face a difficult opposition tomorrow. But like every game in the cup it’s a one off. We also have some positive momentum and strong home form to protect so we will look to impose ourselves on this match.

Our record against Dumbarton last year was quite impressive but we can’t rely on that plus they got promoted when it mattered. Both teams have strengthened so it looks on paper to be an exciting match for all who come to see.

Team news Caleb comes back into the squad, Ben is now pretty much up to speed but we need to be careful we don’t over do it with him to soon, some minor niggles have repaired this week so we’re in a good place. Danny is touch and go and will face a late call. David Wilson trained during the week but again needs to be careful. Duthie is cup tied and Rory will miss out with an ongoing hamstring injury. Longer term injuries remain the same with Andy and Shanks repairing at their own speeds. Kieran Shanks has started high intensity running but is still a while away from contact whilst he builds strength”.
