Edinburgh City 0 Peterhead 4

Sep 1, 2024

For the second week in a row, the Blue Toon made the long trip down to the capital with Edinburgh City this week’s opponents. The hosts were high on confidence following an impressive 3-0 win away to Forfar last week, whilst the Blue Toon extended their unbeaten league run with a draw away to Spartans. There was one enforced change to the Peterhead team with Andy McCarthy being replaced with Rory McAllister.

Edinburgh started the game brightly with Connor Young forcing a stop from Stuart McKenzie but it was Peterhead who opened the scoring. Danny Strachan picked up a loose ball in the middle of the park before driving towards goal and slipping a pass into the path of Rory McAllister, who fired the ball into the far corner. The lead was doubled shortly after with a fast break from the Blue Toon seeing Seb Ross play the ball wide to Peter Pawlett, who bended a finish past the Edinburgh City keeper with the outside of his boot.

McAllister had a fantastic chance to extend the Blue Toon advantage with Barry splitting the defence to see the striker in on goal, but he couldn’t keep his effort on target. Young then fizzed a free kick narrowly wide of McKenzie’s goal before Max Barry produced a goal of the season contender to put the Blue Toon three ahead. Barry cut inside from the ride before bending a left footed effort into the top corner, leaving Mark Weir with absolutely no chance. Weir then made an incredible save to deny Seb from getting on the score sheet as he kept out his left footed effort. Moments later the Blue Toon had a fourth, a short corner between Barry and McAllister saw the latter fire the ball across the 6-yard box and Ryan Strachan was waiting to pounce and score his first goal since his return to the club and cap off a fantastic half for the visitors.

Half Time: Edinburgh City 0-4 Peterhead

The second half started in the same manner as the first with Peterhead completely dominating the game. Dylan Forrest tried his luck from the edge of the area but his effort fizzed wide before Peterhead had the ball in the back of the net for a fifth time, only for the linesman to adjudge McAllister to be in an offside position. Cammy Smith then forced a fantastic low stop from Weir a minute later. Edinburgh didn’t give up as Young was presented with a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit but he couldn’t keep his effort on target. Conner Duthie made his first Peterhead appearance in over a year as he came on as a second half sub, he nearly grabbed an assist as his ball into the area found Jordon Brown, but he fired over the bar.
