Edinburgh City v Peterhead

Aug 27, 2024

The Blue Toon travel to the Capital for the second week running to face Edinburgh City at Medowbank Stadium on Saturday with a 3pm KO.

The last time the two sides met was in April 2023, in one of the first games under the then caretaker management duo of Ryan Strachan and Jordon Brown. Although it was a much needed 1-0 win for Peterhead, it was not enough to prevent relegation at the end of the season and Edinburgh City was to follow suit the following season with their own relegation to League 2.

Edinburgh City will be riding high after a 3-0 thumping away to Forfar Athletic which saw them rise to 6th position in the league table while Peterhead picked up a hard-fought point on the road to Spartans last weekend, enough to keep them in top spot going into this one.

From Jordan Brown: “The club has come a long way on and off the park since we last travelled to Edinburgh City in different circumstances but we want to continue to focus and build on our positive start to the season at the top end of the table especially with no league game next week.
Think everyone can see how tight the league is with the results so far and we know from last year how hard it is to win games away from home. With Edinburghs results, in particular last week, we are fully aware that they are a dangerous side despite a lot of outside noise potentially writing them off.
Losing a player of Andy’s calibre to the unfortunate injury last weekend is of course gutting for him personally first and foremost but also to the team. However he is recovering now at home and knowing him he will be eager to recover fully as soon as he can. We won’t rush him and everyone within the club and even outwith have been in touch to send well wishes and that he has a quick and healthy recovery.
That’s 3 major injury set backs we have had even this early on with Shanks, Caleb and now Andy but as the window closes our squad is strong and that’s why we worked hard to recruit early and we believe in our strength and depth, there are opportunities now for others to continue to step up.
Team wise the above 3 are out along with Div Wilson who has an ankle injury however Shanks is stepping up his running recovery each week which is great to see.
Pete again played through the pain barrier at Spartans last week so we will make a late decision on him and Ben is in similar boat at the moment.
On the plus side Scott Ross should come back into squad after a knock and illness, and we welcome Duthie back into the squad after he got a major step in his full recovery with some good game time at Albion and he will be good to go now when required and gives us a different option which we did not have since the first league game of last season”.
