Peterhead travelled to Easter Road to face Hibernian in the final game of the Premier Sports League Cup with both sides looking to top Group C and seal a place in the last 16. Hibs were looking to bounce back after a 1-0 defeat to Kelty Hearts, whilst Peterhead were looking to build on the momentum of back to back wins. The Blue Toon made 3 changes to the side that defeated Kelty Hearts with Stuart McKenzie, Dylan Forrest and Seb Ross replacing Blessing Oluyemi, Andy McCarthy and Rory McAllister.
The hosts broke the deadlock after five minutes, Lewis Miller’s left footed cross evading everyone and finding the back of the net. Peterhead then began to settle into the game and defended resolutely for the rest of the half. Big blocks from Scott Ross and Jason Brown, plus some big saves from Stuart McKenzie from Dylan Vente kept the score line down.
Half Time: Hibernian 1-0 Peterhead
Once again, Hibs scored early after the restart – Miller grabbing his second goal of the afternoon as the ball broke to him on the edge of the area. Hibs’s third followed shortly after as Martin Boyle drove down the right hand side and squared the ball across to Rudi Molotnikov to tap into the net. Nathan Moriah-Welsh wasted a good opportunity for the hosts with a blast over the bar, before he volleyed home Jordan Obita’s cross for a fourth Hibs goal. McKenzie once again foiled Vente on two occasions as he looked to get in on the action before David Wilson made a vital block with a few moments to spare.
