Banks o’ Dee 1 Peterhead 1 pre-season friendly

Jul 3, 2024

Peterhead’s second pre-season game of the season saw them come up against another Highland League outfit in the form of Banks O’Dee at Spain Park. There were 9 changes from the side that drew on Saturday with Formartine with Danny Strachan and Cieran Dunne the only two to retain a place, with players coming into the side to get more minutes under their belts.

Peterhead started brightly and forced some good early saves from Banks O’Dee keeper Daniel Hoban. Seb Ross was the first to fire a shot at goal as he cut in from the left hand side, and shortly after Jordon Brown slipped Jack Brown in on goal but Hoban was equal to both efforts. Cieran Dunne picked up the ball on the halfway line and drove towards goal and he also forced a good save from the goalie. The Blue Toon had the ball in the back of the net through Seb Ross but the linesman raised his flag for an offside in the build up.

Andrew Hunter nearly scored a goal of the season contender for the hosts as his half volley from 30 yards looped over Blessing Oluyemi and crashed off the bar. Jack Brown’s effort from distance was well dealt with by Hoban before some nice interplay between Rory McAllister and Jack Brown saw the latter slip Seb Ross through but once again, he was foiled by Hoban.

Half Time: Banks O’Dee 0-0 Peterhead

Peterhead started on the front foot once again at the beginning of the second half and were close to taking the lead as Jordon Brown’s shot deflected off the crossbar and back into play. Seb did well as he won the ball back in a dangerous area of the pitch and made an opportunity for McAllister but his chipped effort was claimed by the goalie. Moments later it looked like Banks O’Dee were destined to go ahead as Hunter was through on goal, however Oluyemi got an important touch to the ball and the defence cleared the danger. A raft of subs were made by both sides on the hour mark with Jason Brown, David Wilson, Max Barry, Robert Ward and Kieran Shanks entering the field of play.

Another driving run from Seb Ross saw him through on goal but his effort hit the side netting before Jack Brown forced a fantastic save from substitute goalkeeper Matthew Duncan following a deflection. Robert Ward then forced the young keeper into another low save before Peterhead finally got the breakthrough. Barry’s corner was delivered beautifully into the box and Jordon Brown was there to meet it and head into the roof of the net – the co-manager scoring the Blue Toon’s first goal of pre-season. Unfortunately, the lead didn’t last long as a defensive mix up at the back saw Lachie MacLeod dink the ball over Oluyemi and into the net. Peterhead once again went on the attack in search of a late winner, however the only opportunity created was Max Barry’s shot from distance which Duncan collected at the second attempt.
