Formartine 0 Peterhead 0 pre-season friendly

Jun 30, 2024

Peterhead opened up their pre-season with a visit to Cormack Park in a match against Formartine United. There was a mix of familiar faces and new signings as the management team got a first proper look at Dylan Forrest, Max Barry, Ben Armour and Cieran Dunne from the off and Seb Ross off the bench.

Peterhead controlled the majority opening exchanges without creating too many chances despite making lots of crosses into the area. Barry had the opening chance of the game with a drive from 25 yards but his effort was off target. Formartine always looked a threat on the counter and Scott Adams nearly opened the scoring as he got onto the end of a long ball down the line, he cut inside and fired off the post. Peterhead then piled on the pressure and Forrest’s high press led to a chance for Kieran Shanks, his first time effort forcing a strong save from Ewen McDonald in the Formartine net. Moments later Peterhead were in again. Andy McCarthy’s quick free kick was met by Jordan Armstrong, he cut the ball back to Shanks who smashed an effort off the bar. The ball was only half cleared by the Formartine defence and it fell to Jason Brown on the edge of the box, his shot deflecting into the path of Ben Armour who forced a strong save from the Formartine keeper.

Half Time: Formartine 0-0 Peterhead

Blessing Oluyemi came on at half time as both sides changed their keepers at the break. Peterhead once again came out with impetus and looked to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Barry had a free kick hit the post from 20 yards out and moments later he looked to be in on goal as he beat the onrushing Cameron Middleton to a long ball over the top, but great defensive work from Jonathan Crawford foiled the midfielder before he could stick the ball into an empty net. Peterhead made a string of changes at the hour mark with Kieran Shanks, Danny Strachan, Cieran Dunne, Andy McCarthy and Dylan Forrest being replaced by Peter Pawlett, Caleb Goldie, Arran Smith, Seb Ross and Jack Brown. Both teams struggled to create any clear cut chances after the changes until Arran Paterson sent an acrobatic effort wide for Formartine. In the dying moments of the game, Jack Brown had an effort from the edge of the area which he couldn’t direct on target.
