The Spartans v Peterhead

Apr 26, 2024

Peterhead travel to Ainslie Park tomorrow as The Blue Toon take on The Spartans in their last away match of the 2023/2024 league campaign.

After playing 34 league matches apiece this season, The Spartans occupy fourth place; only two points behind second placed Peterhead. The last time the two teams faced off, Spartans left Balmoor victorious as Blair Henderson’s strike was enough to secure all three points. The Spartans have often overcome The Blue Toon this season; winning three of the four encounters. Peterhead’s only triumph in this fixture was the only time they have visited Ainslie Park, back in November, when Hamish Ritchie’s late winner was the difference.

Ahead of The Blue Toon’s last away match, head coach Jamie McNee shares his outlook:

“It’s a strange end to the season playing the two teams involved in the playoffs with us for the last two games. I’m sure they’ll feel the same for their game with us but we’ve been on good form and deserve to be where we are so we’re all focussed on really finishing strong in preparation for these massive playoff games.

This is our 5th time playing Spartans this season and there’s been 1 goal in it every game so far so we expect a really competitive game again, and we look forward to it. I believe nearly everybody is back fit enough to be involved in some capacity with the exception to one or two who aren’t far away at all.”

In a three horse race for second place, it’s all to play for in Peterhead’s last trip of the league campaign.
