Elgin City v Peterhead

Apr 19, 2024

Peterhead make the short journey to Borough Briggs on Saturday afternoon as The Blue Toon face rivals Elgin City in a 3pm kick off.

Elgin City who were at one point favourites for relegation have found their form since the turn of the year and crept up the League 2 standings. With relegation now looking unlikely, Elgin occupy sixth place; seven points above last-placed Clyde with three games to play. In the three times the two teams have faced each other this season, each side have a win apiece and shared the points on once occasion. The last time The Blue Toon played at Borough Briggs however the hosts ran out 2-1 winners.

Ahead of Saturday’s match; Jordon Brown shares his views as his side search for a more positive outcome than the last trip to Elgin:

“It’s a positive and testament to the group that we go into tomorrows game with a play off spot secured with 3 games to go. Since a difficult Xmas period into January we had set targets to look at stringing momentum and consistency together and with 1 defeat in 13 games we have done that so again that’s a positive. We now reset our focus on finishing 2nd and that is really important to us all. It’s a huge 5/6 weeks ahead and everyone is looking forward to it. Tomorrow will be another tough test, as the previous 2 games against Elgin have shown. They have done excellent to turn their season around and can mathematically confirm their safety tomorrow so we know their motivation will be high but we need to match that with our own targets of securing 2nd. Away from home we have competed well in every game however we know a win has escaped us since new year and that is something we are looking to put right before the season ends. It would be a good one to reward the travelling fans also who have followed us all season and with Elgin being the closest to a derby we always bring a great following and the squad recognises that support. On the squad front we are slightly stretched with mixed news, Rory and Joe won’t make it with the niggles they picked up last week but we believe they will return before play offs begin. Shanks is suspended for the next 2 games however we do welcome David Wilson and Andy McCarthy back into the squad. It’s also great to see Conner Duthie with his boots on at training as he builds up his recovery looking towards next season”.
