Peterhead 1 East Fife 1

Mar 20, 2024

The Blue Toon were looking for back to back wins following the previous week’s success at home to Stranraer.

East Fife were the visitors who themselves had put together a decent run of results since the appointment of new manager Dick Campbell.

It was the home side who made great strides in the first half and got off to a positive start. After just 4 minutes Kieran Shanks headed wide of goalkeeper Fleming’s post following a Flynn Duffy cross and 10 minutes later Hamish Ritchie watched the ball fly into the net only for it to be deemed offside. The Fifers were struggling to cope with the way the Blue Toon were moving the ball around and it came as no surprise to see Peter Pawlett open the scoring after 29 minutes. Conor O’Keefe drilled the ball into the penalty area and Pawlett slotted home easily, his first goal for the club. This proved to be the only goal of the half.

In the second half play continued in similar fashion. O’Keefe broke through and looked odds on to score before Fleming got a hand to it and gathered the ball to safety. Against the run of play East Fife equalised on 51 minutes through the experienced Alan Trouten who sidefooted the ball into the net from a decent cross. Following a raft of substitutions the Fifers began to carve out a few more chances and with this push forward the tempo was increased from both sides. Trouten could have scored again at one end and Ryan Strachan forced another good save from Fleming at the other end. Both sides huffed and puffed in the final stages before the referee blew for full-time and a point apiece was shared.
