Dumbarton v Peterhead

Mar 1, 2024

Peterhead travel to The Rock tomorrow as The Blue Toon take on Dumbarton at 3pm.

The League 2 clash will prove to be a vital one for both sides as only four points separate Peterhead and Dumbarton in second and fourth place, respectively.

Peterhead are currently unbeaten in their last six outings; however only taking the three points on one occasion; with points shared in their other five matches. After coming from behind to beat Stranraer 2-1, last weekend, Dumbarton will aim to keep the pressure on The Blue Toon in their bid to clinch second place.

Ahead of their trip to the banks of the River Clyde, Ryan Strachan shares his thoughts:

“It’s felt like a long week since our last match, possibly because we had a midweeker last week which breaks the week up considerably. What the week has done is allowed us to get some time on the training park together which has been positive.

Recent form has been ok, similar to past few months where in games we look excellent at times then shooting ourselves in the foot in other moments. Tomorrow will be a game of who defends best and makes least mistakes wins, it really will be that simple. All games with Dumbarton this season have been close encounters, tomorrow will likely be a similar hard fought match on a tricky surface.

Team selection-wise some of our big players are due to return in the next week or so which will be magic and give us a huge lift. Some have been training really hard and are coming along nicely but there is no rush at this point of season. We need everyone back mentally ready and physically stronger.”

Peterhead’s two encounters with Dumbarton this season have both ended in victories for The Blue Toon. Peterhead came from behind with three late goals to beat Dumbarton 3-1 at Balmoor back in January and overcome the side one goal to nil in their last outing to The Rock.
