Stranraer v Peterhead

Jan 12, 2024

Peterhead make the long trip south on Saturday as The Blue Toon travel to Stranraer. The fixture will be the 3rd time Peterhead have contested Stranraer this season and the 2nd trip to Stair Park. With both teams claiming a home victory each this season in the fixture, it’s Peterhead who have had the advantage in recent meetings with 3 wins in their last 5 matches between the two sides.

After suffering a patch of poor from over the festive period, The Blue Toon returned to winning ways at Balmoor on Tuesday evening. After going down a goal in the opening minutes, Peterhead brushed Dumbarton aside with late goals from Rory McAllister and Jack Brown enough to seal a victory. As well as claiming a vital victory, new signing Peter Pawlett also made his debut for Peterhead on Tuesday evening.

Ahead of the trip to Stair Park on Saturday, Jordon Brown shares his thoughts on performances of late and looks ahead to the clash:

“Stranraer have been one of our toughest opponents this season and we were probably at our poorest the last time we played down there so it is one we have a determination to do well in. Tuesday was a great relief all round but also a reward for the character and quality within the group to keep going throughout a tough period. We know the importance of backing up Tuesdays result and it can hopefully be the catalyst to a successful 2nd half of the season. Everyone can see the lift Peter Pawlett has given the squad on and off the pitch and with that extra bit of depth from the bench it made the difference and we are hoping that will be the case going forward. Squad wise it will be similar to how we were on Tuesday but Jason Brown will now be a major doubt as we await scan results on his ankle. Connor O’Keefe and Jordan Armstrong are close to being involved. Kieran Gibbons and Conner Duthie continue their rehab. On the back of this we are still looking to add another body or two but being patient on this front as we have been all season to ensure we get the right player in.”

A win on Saturday would ensure Peterhead remain in 2nd place; and either close the gap on leaders Stenhousemuir or edge further away from 3rd place Spartans; depending on the outcome when the two sides meet on Saturday.
