Peterhead take to Balmoor on Saturday as The Blue Toon host The Spartans.
Kicking off at the usual time of 3pm, The Spartans will be Peterhead’s first opponents in 2024.
Saturday’s opposition currently sit 4th in league 2; 3 points behind 2nd place Peterhead however The Spartans do have a game in hand. The two teams last met in November when goals from Scott Ross and Hamish Ritchie secured all three points at Ainslie Park in a 2-1 victory. In form Spartans have won 4 of their last 5 matches in all competitions; whilst only conceding 3 goals during that period.
Ryan Strachan shares his thoughts ahead of what will undoubtedly be a challenging test to kick off 2024:
“We’ve had a really disappointing festive period; the whole of November and December felt very stop start but we’re keen to put it behind us and move on with a positive result and performance on Saturday against strong opposition. We’re going through a difficult period where we’re not firing on all cylinders at both ends of the park and it’s cost us in the last two matches.
We have a busy January and will look to make progress with results and performances. It is important we return to positive ways tomorrow as negative momentum can be hard to flip especially in this league where teams are well set up against us.
With regards to selection the disruption continues; Rory McAllister is now suspended for accumulation of bookings, Jason Brown is a doubt, Conner Duthie and Kieran Gibbons continue to rehabilitate and Aaron Reid has returned to his parent club, Aberdeen. We wish him all the best and thank him for his contributions.
We majorly welcome the return of Joe McKee who was ill last week and has been excellent all season. Hopefully in the coming weeks we can freshen the squad up and get a lift from a new face or two.
The ongoing support is appreciated and hopefully they turn up tomorrow to make noise and get us out of this sticky patch.”
With disappointing results in back to back defeats against Forfar Athletic and Elgin City, The Blue Toon will aim to make a positive impression on the new year against Saturday’s opposition; The Spartans.
