The Blue Toon suffered back to back league losses for the first time this season in what was a difficult afternoon for everyone to take. Despite sharing the bulk of the possession The Toon could not find the net until a late Kieran Shanks penalty, merely a consolation at this time.
Peterhead witnessed a number of balls flash past the Elgin goalmouth with chances falling to Conor O’Keefe, Hamish Ritchie and Rory McAllister and it began to look like lady luck was against us. Then with 39 minutes played and against the run of play Elgin raced forward. Russell Dingwall provided a through ball to former Ross County youngster Ryan MacLeman who drilled the ball past McKenzie with a low drive into the corner of the net.
Jason Brown, who had played through an injury, decided he could not continue and Jordan Armstrong got ready to enter the field but Brown decided to play on for the remaining minute of the half and as the teams reappeared after the break Armstrong came on and Jason took a seat in the stand. The second half play was fast paced but Elgin got their noses further in front when new signing Robert Jones evaded challenges of Strachan and Ross and slotted the ball past McKenzie to double their lead. It was not to be Peterhead’s day and a late penalty award was cooly slotted home by Kieran Shanks; the award given following a trip of Robert Ward inside the penalty area. As the remaining injury time minutes ticked away Peterhead could not find an equaliser and it ended in a disappointing defeat.
