Last year the SPFL Trust launched a new-look Christmas initiative designed to support those who need it most at this time of year, “Festive Friends – At Home” which was supported by Peterhead FC. We delivered a total of 126 Christmas hampers and we were also able to host a Christmas lunch at Balmoor for 56 elderly and isolated people from our local community.
It’s been another tough year for everyone due to the cost of living crisis, but of course, it has been especially difficult for the elderly who are at higher risk of social isolation.
We are delighted to announce that this year we can now host a Christmas lunch at the Bloo Toon Lounge for 40-50 people and also deliver up to 70 hampers for those in need in our local community.
Festive Friends is about more than just hosting a lunch and sending out Christmas hampers; it is about delivering compassion, patience and kindness at the end of a year when it never meant more.
Peterhead FC Community Liaison Officer Nat Porter said ` We were delighted when the SPFL Trust decided to continue the Festive Friends initiative. It has always been very popular and well received in the community. The fact that they are supporting both the meal and the hampers is great news”.
The lunch will be on Tuesday 12th December (time to be confirmed) and the hampers will be delivered on Thursday 14th December between 10am and 3pm. We are also delighted to confirm that Buchanhaven School Choir will sing Christmas carols before the meal which has always been a highlight of Festive Friends.
We are working with partners including the local fire station, local councillor Dianne Beagrie, Stella`s Voice, Aberdeenshire Council, NHS Grampian, Strachans and Peterhead Boys Club to deliver the initiative.
If you wish to put forward any names for either the meal or a hamper please get in touch with the Club on 01779 478256 or e.mail nat.porter@peterheadfc.co.uk or office@peterheadfc.co.uk
Lets all get together and bring a little cheer this Christmas.
