Peterhead v The Spartans

Jul 25, 2023

Following a defeat at Tannadice Park on Saturday, Peterhead look to bounce back on Wednesday evening as The Blue Toon host fellow League 2 side Spartans in their 3rd match of the ViaPlay League Cup. A win over Dundee United and a narrow loss to Falkirk mean newly promoted Spartans FC currently sit 4th place in the League Cup table, with Peterhead two points behind in 5th place.

A straight red card for player manager Ryan Strachan and a second yellow card in the competition for midfielder Andy McCarthy (both received vs Dundee United on Saturday) mean Peterhead are without two key players. Taking sole charge on Wednesday night, player manager Jordon Brown has his say: “We’re looking forward to being back at home again and looking to pick up where we left against Partick and to show a reaction to a defeat at Tannadice. It’s a different challenge for the team as it will be more of the type of test we will have week in week out when the league games start. We will continue to get some more minutes in everyone’s legs and hopefully come through unscathed ready to have a fully fit squad for the league starting a week on Saturday. It’s important for us to keep a strong mentality towards the league starting and winning games like this will help that. Unfortunately tomorrow Gibbons is still out and we have Ryan and Andy suspended but that creates a great opportunity for others in the squad to stake their starting claims and support the fact that we feel we have strength in depth throughout the squad this year.”

A victory over Spartans FC would see The Blue Toon climb to 3rd place in group B; above Spartans and Dundee United.
