Praise for Gillies and Scullion

Peterhead manager Jim McInally has praised the positive performances of loan signing Max Gillies and trialist Robbie Scullion in Saturday’s game with Airdrie. Right back Gillies joined the Blue Toon on a season long loan on Friday from Queen’s Park with Scullion given the chance to show what he can do following discussions between manager McInally and his agent late on in the week as well. Jim said: “I have been trying to get the right quality of player into our squad throughout the summer, and it has been a difficult process when you consider the number of players we need to get in.” “Despite the issues we had with injuries in the Premier Cup, there was little point in lowering the bar and bringing in players who will not be challenging for a place when our squad is a lot healthier.” “Max is a very good example of what we have been looking for.” Jim explained: “Max has a good pedigree and has been well-coached. He showed against Airdrie that he will add value to us in the way he went about things. He has good going forward and good in situations where it looked like he was beaten. Overall, he can be pleased with a very solid debut.” Former Partick Thistle youngster Scullion had ironically spent pre-season with the Diamonds before facing them at the weekend with Jim saying: “I was made aware of Robbie’s availability on Friday and made a quick call to get him up to play on Saturday. He was trying to remain as a full-time player during the summer however he may have to consider being a part-timer now.” “He had a look at us on Saturday and we had a look at him. I thought he did well and is a player who gets stuck right into things. We have asked him to join us for training this week and we will take things from there.”
