Match Preview – Peterhead v East Fife – We owe them one!

Apr 23, 2022

Peterhead manager Jim McInally is thinking more about East Fife than his summer holidays and his players are in the same frame of mind as the Blue Toon look to continue their fine run of form with a home win this afternoon.

Fears of being involved in relegation issues have been blown away after three wins in four unbeaten games however the Balmoor boss is determined to get another three points on board against a Fife team who will spend next season in League 2.

The Methil men have been a thorn in Peterhead’s side this season having won the first league encounter between the sides and then progressed in the Challenge Cup at the expense of McInally’s men.

A debut goal from Ryan Duncan earned Peterhead a point in a league meeting at Balmoor with a goalless draw played out in the next meeting to leave Jim saying: “We will look to finish off on a high at home with a win over East Fife. We have not played that badly against them this season but we have not secured a win in any of the four games.”

“We feel that we owe them one however they will be out to prove a point in terms of showing that they are better than their league position would indicate.”

“I am sure their pride has been hurt after relegation was confirmed last weekend and they will want to start sending out a message about their next campaign as a result. It will be a competitive game as a result and that suits us as that is what we have prepared for.”

“Our training was at a very high pace and standard this week and the players know that the season has not ended. It is also our last home game and we do not want things to end on a low especially after our recent performances and results.”

Team news –

Jason Brown misses out through suspension after being dismissed in last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Queen’s Park. Hamish Ritchie and Derek Lyle are both available after returning to training this week however Russell McLean and David Wilson remain out through injury.
