Duo will face Diamonds if balance is right

Peterhead duo Simon Ferry and Niah Payne are in manager Jim McInally’s plans for Saturday’s trip to Airdrie however the Balmoor boss admits that he has to get the balance right between the short and long term.

Player/ coach Ferry and attacker Payne were both injured in the goalless draw with Falkirk on October 23 however they returned to training on Tuesday and will be in the squad that heads to Lanarkshire.

Jim, who spent last night taking in a Highland League game to spy on a potential recruit, said: “Simon’s hamstring is feeling better and Niah is now feeling a lot less discomfort in his ankle. They did most of the training earlier this week and are due to train again on Thursday so we will need to see if there is any reaction on Friday.”

“It would be great to have them available from the start on Saturday however Airdrie play on an artificial pitch and our next game is on an artificial surface at Cove. The last thing we need is to aggravate the injuries and have them out for longer so it has to be balancing act.”
