Match Preview – We will look to play like we did against Alloa

Oct 23, 2021

Peterhead host Falkirk this afternoon with the Blue Toon out to make up for a 2-1 defeat from the Bairns earlier in the season.

The Balmoor side go into the game on the back of wins over Dumbarton and Alloa with the nine goals scored in those two outings taking Jim McInally’s side to the top of the goalscoring charts in League 1.

A win for Peterhead would take them above Paul Sheerin’s side in the ultra-competitive table with manager McInally admitting that he will have trouble picking his starting eleven.

Jim said: “Falkirk deservedly beat us earlier this season however there were key moments in that game that went against us. We should have had a couple of penalties and if they had been given the game may have turned out differently, however they weren’t.”

“Based on how the rest of the game was played I cannot argue about the result. That was a really big day for Falkirk. It was the first game they had fans at for 18 months and there was a lot of excitement over a new look squad and a new manager.”

“I left there disappointed with the result but not the performance.”

Falkirk won their next three games before losing the next four with a win over East Fife three weeks ago followed by a defeat by Airdrie last weekend with Jim adding: “I am not reading too much into the positivity at Falkirk not being at the same level. They are a full-time club in this league and expected to do well. They had a disappointing result last weekend but this is a really competitive league and at the moment no-one can predict a result in it.”

“We will look to play like we did against Alloa last weekend albeit with a better start to the game. We can take confidence from that display and result that built on a good win over Dumbarton at our place before the international break.”

“The performance last weekend has given me headaches of the right kind. Everyone played well and the new defensive shape we were trying was going well and I only changed it to get another attacker on board after Alloa had a man sent off.”

“That attacker, Russell McLean, scored and played well so I have a number of difficult decisions to make.”

Team News – Hamish Ritchie is available after shaking off a knock however the injured Ryan Conroy, Alan Cook, Gary Fraser, Ryan Duncan and Jordon Brown remain out.
