Queen’s Park preview

Peterhead manager Jim McInally takes his side up against a Queen’s Park team that top League 1 with the Balmoor boss admitting that the game against the Spiders is feeling a bit ‘bizarre’ to him.

Jim explained: “I grew up in Castlemilk in Glasgow and the nearest senior football side to me was Queen’s Park. They were always unique in that they held on to their amateur status and played at Hampden. They were always recognised as a club that gave boys a chance in football and were well-respected for that.”

“As a manager I have some very good tussles with Queen’s over the years, and I am looking forward to this one as well, however Queen’s Park are a very different club now. They sold Hampden a couple of years ago but picked up the backing of Lord Willie Haughey and have become a full-time fully professional operation.”

“The level of change is astonishing. At one time Peterhead were viewed as a ‘big budget’ club but Queen’s Park are certainly a ‘big budget club’ now.”

Jim added: “They have a very good squad and it is no surprise that they are at the top of the league. However, we will concentrate on what we can do. We pushed Cove Rangers all the way last weekend and deserved more than we got.”

“It was a much better defensive performance from us however we need to do more in the final third. This game feels a bit like the one we had against Dundee United at Tannadice at the start of last season and the one against Partick Thistle almost a year ago at Firhill. No-one expected us to do anything in either of them and we won them both 1-0.”

“We will look to play our game and do something similar.”

Team News – Peterhead player/coach Simon Ferry is a major doubt after picking up a knee injury. Gary Fraser remains out long-term with Jordon Brown (hamstring), Alan Cook (shin) and Derryn Kesson (leg) also set to be unavailable.

New signing David Wilson is included however a shortage of recent game time could see the former Elgin City defender start on the bench.
