We will not rush Cook

Peterhead manager Jim McInally is not yet ready to throw Alan Cook back into his starting XI despite the versatile 29 year old returning to action as a substitute at the weekend.

Cook, who had been out since July with a stress fracture in his shin, came off the bench for the closing stages of Saturday’s 1-0 SPFL Trust Trophy defeat from East Fife however the Balmoor boss is not looking at a starting berth for Cook as yet.

Jim said: “When Alan came on you could see what he brings to our game. He is a strong determined player who creates things with his left foot. It was good to see him back in amongst things however he is still very much in the comeback zone.”

“He did not complete a full pre-season programme so needs to build up his fitness. We will do that with him away from the pitch and look to give him game time when we can. He is an important figure in our dressing room and having him about on match days is important as he is an experienced player.”

“Over the next few weeks he will be ready for starting and I look forward to having that choice.”
