Peterhead have secured the services of Russell McLean for a second time with the towering hit-man returning to Balmoor after a two and a half year break subject to Scottish FA approval.
Russell who has now turned 23 joined the Blue Toon in the summer of 2017 after stints at Alloa, Hearts and East Kilbride and he made an impact with 23 goals in 75 games. However at that time Rory McAllister and Derek Lyle were regular starters and the goalgrabber moved onto Montrose as he wanted to play regularly.
After hitting the net 14 times for the Gable Endies (including a double against Peterhead) Russell agreed to move back to Peterhead where he has been set the challenge of being the club’s main man when it comes to scoring this season.
Manager Jim McInally said: “I have always been a fan of Russell. I did not want him to leave a few years ago however he wanted to start games and I could not promise him that. We had discussions over the summer and it became apparent that he would come back to the club and ever since then I have been working on making it happen.”
“I am excited to see him playing for us again and when you consider the players he has supporting him now in attack and midfield we are a side that should score goals and Russell should get more than his fair share.”
“He has looked good in training and hopefully he will be involved at the weekend in our friendlies.”
