Peterhead manager Jim McInally has secured the services of attacker Derryn Kesson for a second season with the Balmoor boss delighted that the 22 year old stuck things out in a tough first year in senior football.
Derryn stepped up to senior football from Broughty Athletic last summer and it took time to adjust with the fleet-footed player having to settle for a regular role as a substitute as a result with Jim saying: “There is no doubt that Derryn is very talented when he works with a football. He has played futsal and you can see who comfortable he is when he gets to play however in senior football there are a lot of other attributes required as well.”
“Derryn did not quite realise the amount of simple hard work that needs to put in and it was difficult for him as he had to learn and then show that he possessed the work-rate required for 90 minutes. There must have been times when he felt that he could go back to playing regular football in Dundee but he stuck at things.”
“He got his first start in the game we won 3-1 at East Fife and showed what he could do. It must have been great for him to know that he has the trust of his fellow players and coaching staff to start a game.”
“Derryn now knows what is required to play every week and I am delighted he has agreed to some back. I hope he is giving me a problem every week next season when I am picking my starting XI.”
