Peterhead manager Jim McInally was delighted his players ‘got what they deserved’ against a Falkirk side who had travelled to Balmoor as league leaders on Tuesday night.
The Blue Toon went into the game knowing that they would be in the bottom half of the table for the final four games of the season after the split took place following last night’s meeting however they shrugged that disappointment off to win 1-0 thanks to Jason Brown’s late goal.
Keeping as far away from relegation and the relegation play-offs was the target before the game and it remains the same despite the win with Jim saying: “Despite this great win we are not safe yet however there are plenty of positives to build on. It was a very, very good performance against Falkirk and it was probably our best all-round performance of the season.”
“The players played at a high tempo and defended well throughout. We outplayed Falkirk at times when we went forward and I have to compliment the staff at the club and the players for the fitness levels that were on display.”
“There have been lots of games this season where we have done well and not scored and for a while it looked like this would be another one. However there was a belief in the group that a goal would come and it was terrific to hear Simon Ferry and Derek Lyle shouting from the substitutes’ bench to keep going as a goal would come.”
“We eventually got what we deserved and a lot of credit for that goes to young Danny Strachan. He accepted a free-kick and had the foresight not to just launch it forward but to drop a precise ball in-behind their defence where Jason had timed his run perfectly.”
“We had a lot of young players out there against an experienced side so I am delighted for them to get such a deserved three points.”
