Peterhead 0 Stenhousemuir 1 – Blue Toon out of Cup after failing to get better of Martin

Peterhead exited the Scottish Cup on Tuesday night after going down 1-0 to Stenhousemuir at Balmoor.

After a bright start that included Kyle Bailey going close with a header from a Ryan Conroy corner the Blue Toon fell behind on 18 minutes,

Botti Biabi was allowed to scamper down the left wing and picked out Ryan Blair with a cross. Blair fired for goal and when Joshua Rae pushed out his effort Mark McGuigan sent the rebound through the legs of the shot-stopper.

Midway through the half Peterhead skipper Scott Brown limped off to be replaced by Ben Armour

Visiting goalkeeper Paddy Martin made two terrific close -range stops before the break from Jason Brown and Armour with Peterhead beginning to get the feeling that it was not going to be their night.

After the break the hosts were the better side for the opening 20 minutes however Isaac Layne wasted a good opening from a free-kick when he sent the ball high over.

Armour swivelled his way past the visiting defence to get clear on goal and his low drive looked a goal all the way until Martin made another fine stop. The game opened up in the closing stages with Peterhead pushing for an equaliser, Stenhousemuir looking dangerous on the break.

Local boy Danny Strachan looked set to force extra time when he rose to meet a McCarthy cross however he sent his header over the bar.

Peterhead – Rae, Bailey (Strachan 80), J Brown, Freeman, Conroy, Kesson, S Brown, (Armour 23), McDonald, McCarthy, Payne, Layne (McGrath 73)
