Peterhead start their 27 game League 1 campaign at Airdrie this afternoon with manager Jim McInally believing that the 90 minutes against the Diamonds will tell him more of what lies ahead this season than the two Betfred Cup games they have played in so far.
A fantastic 1-0 win at Tannadice over Dundee United was enjoyed last Saturday and the positivity around the club grew further after a 3-1 success over Brechin City at Balmoor on Tuesday.
Jim explained: “The two games we have played and the two results we have picked up have been great but winning points in the league is what it is all about now. It is a tough start as Airdrie will expect to be in the play-offs at least when the season ends, however it is also a good game to have as we will learn where where we are against that level of opposition.”
“To do anything we will have to stand up to a side that play football in what I think is a proper way in that they are always looking to make you defend by getting the ball into your box. They do not just do that one way as they mix-up the way they play as they can pass the ball around very well but also go direct if they want to. They will put long throws close to our goal and we have to stand up to that.”
“This will be a real test of where we are.”

Peterhead go into the game three players down
On-loan Dundee youngster Josh Mulligan has not recovered from the ankle injury that saw him limped off 10 minutes into his debut against Dundee United and Ben Armour is struggling with a hamstring problem. Also missing is Gary Fraser, who is self-isolating after his partner tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week.
