Formartine United 2 Peterhead 0
A Peterhead side that started with six trialists went down 2-0 at Formartine United with manager Jim McInally perplexed how his side never got back into the game after a poor start.
A four man defence that included two midfielders and a trialist was breached after only 6 minutes when former Blue Toon striker Conor Gethins cracked in a fine goal.
A chance to equalise emerged 6 minutes later when Ben Armour was presented with a great opportunity however he was crowded out and the clearance from the Formartine area resulted in an opportunity for Scott Lisle who netted past a trialist goalkeeper.
Peterhead eventually settled and started taking the game to their hosts however they could not grab a goal back before the end of the first half.
In the second 45 minutes Peterhead began to have a more recognisable look and that resulted in more traffic heading towards the home goa.
Unfortunately neither Isaac Layne or Steven Boyd could force a shot over the line and Scott Brown saw an effort come back off a post.
Manager Jim McInally said: “We lost bad goals from our point of view early on. To be fair to Conor his goal was a cracking strike however when you have such an unrecognisable defence you run the risk of being caught cold and we were.”
“It looked like we would get the chance to settle down when Ben went through and had the chance to shoot or pick out a team-mate. Unfortunately the ball was cleared and we were two down.”
“We responded well and according to stats I have been given we had 22 shots at goal. You never like to lose a game but at this stage of the season it is about building fitness and looking at trialists. Two games in two days was always going to be a challenge but it gave me the chance to give players plenty of game time to assess them.”
“I will now take time to reflect on what I have seen and decide who we should pursue our interest in.”
