Peterhead 0 Fraserburgh 2

Peterhead manager Jim McInally had no complaints after a make-shift Blue Toon side went down 2-0 at home to Highland League neighbours Fraserburgh in a pre-season friendly.

The Broch hit the front early with Scott Barbour sweeping in a Paul Campbell cross and they deservedly held that lead when the halftime whistle arrived.

The start of the second half saw Peterhead almost draw level with Summer signing Isaac Layne sending a shot against a post.

Three trialists had stared the game however the hosts never started making further inroads until Ben Armour and Steven Boyd came off the bench midway through the second half.

They helped pep up McInally’s side’s attack however Fraserburgh secured the win in the closing stages when Ryan Sargent slipped the ball past Lenny Wilson with just two minutes left.

Jim said: “I have no complaints about the final result. Fraserburgh were better than us in the first half and whilst the second 45 minutes was better we could not get anything from the game.”

“Fraserburgh deserve a lot of credit for how they played as they pressed us hard and we could not find a way to deal with that especially early on. We play Fraserburgh every year as they are a good side. They do not just offer a physical challenge they offer a challenge as they are a good side as well.”

McInally added: “We were missing players as they are not yet ready to play and are a bit low on numbers but I am not going to go down that route. We are heading to Formartine on Sunday and will use the same pool with the exception of Simon Ferry who has picked up a slight knock and the trialist, Hasim Bakar, who may have broken a shoulder after what was a poor challenge was carried out on him.

Trialist goalkeeper  Reece Willison will play for the 90 minutes with McInally adding: “Lenny Wilson got the 90 minutes against Fraserburgh and did well. It was always our intention to give the goalkeepers a game each as opposed to 45 minutes twice.”
