Aidan Smith is to leave Peterhead with the striker close to agreeing a deal with a League 2 side
The 23 year old former Queen of the South forward is the last member of the ‘Dumfries Four’, who were making a round trip of 500 miles to play for the Balmoor side, and after agreeing with manager Jim McInally that he could move on talks with an interested club have kicked off.
Smith was travelling north for training and games alongside goalkeeper Greg Fleming, defender Scott Hooper and attacker Willie Gibson who was the first to depart Peterhead when he headed to Stenhousemuir last August.
Fleming signed for Stranraer in July and Hooper joined Kelty Hearts last month to leave Smith facing the long trek on his own.
Manager McInally said: “Aidan was due to be part of my plans for the new season, but when Greg and Scott left, I was expecting that Aidan would also move on. We signed him on a two-year deal after paying a development fee and we will recoup some of that cost.”
