Peterhead defender Scott Hooper has received good news after delayed tests on spleen and liver following a bout of glandular fever confirmed that he had suffered no damage.
The 25 year old former Queen of the South and Annan player was a regular during his first season at the Blue Toon until he was withdrawn from their starting line-up just minutes before they were due to face Airdrie at Balmoor in February after falling ill.
Hooper told the club’s medical staff that he had been feeling unwell for several days and did not have enough energy to play with tests at that time revealing that the centre back had been suffering from glandular fever for six weeks.
There were fears that the lengthy period before discovering the cause of the illness may have caused damage to Hooper’s spleen and liver and there was further agony when ultrasound checks were postponed due to the impact of the Coronavirus.
The tests have now been carried out and Hooper has been given the all-clear to start building up his fitness with manager Jim McInally saying: “With the Coronavirus and this illness it has been a worrying three months for Scott but thankfully he has received good news. He can now start working towards fitness for when football comes back.”
“He only joined us on a one season deal but he knows that once we have a way-ahead I will be speaking to him about returning to Peterhead.”
