Happy Big Birthday Stuart Hogg!

May 16, 2020

Peterhead manager Jim McInally has praised the Blue Toon’s legendary fitness coach Stuart Hogg who celebrates turning 80 today.

Hogg who has worked with Dundee United and Aberdeen in the past is also a legend in athletics where he has enjoyed a more than 40-year career in coaching.

The new octogenarian worked with Scottish athletes Yvonne Murray and Aileen McGillivray in the 1980’s and at the 2010 Commonwealth Games with Eilidh Child as well as recent European Championships and Olympics with Irish sprinter Paul Hession.

McInally reckons that the ability to have an open mind has kept Hogg involved in sport for as long as he has with the Blue Toon boss saying: “When you look at Stuart’s CV, we are incredibly lucky to have him working with us at Peterhead. He was Scotland’s Coach of the Year twice and received a Life-Time achievement Award from Scottish Athletic’s back in 2010.”

“However, he has not rested on his laurels or his methods. His techniques are modern and our boys enjoy working with him. He may turn 80 in a couple of weeks but he holds his own with them as he is as sharp as a tack.”

“The boys appreciate how good he is and had a whip-round for him to mark his birthday. When you consider the athletes he has worked with, and the levels he has worked at, it is a great testament to Stuart that he gets just as excited about helping a Peterhead player.”
