Andrew McCarthy keeping Peterhead ahead of Partick

Apr 14, 2020

Peterhead midfielder Andrew McCarthy is seeing off players from Ross County, Partick Thistle and Queen’s Park online on a daily basis as former colleagues get together to help deal with the lockdown caused by the Coronavirus.

The former Jag who joined the Blue Toon in January from Queen of the South is handing out lessons in playing virtual football by defeating County’s Blair Spittal, Stuart Bannigan and Thomas O’Ware of Thistle as well as Craig Slater from the Hampden side.

McCarthy said: “We get together on-line for an hour every afternoon to play FIFA. I am too modest to say who wins the most but I will say that Stuart Bannigan is dreadful at it. Mind you he is even worse when we move onto Call of Duty.”

“We were all good pals when we were at Thistle and despite everything that is going on, we have been able to keep our friendship going on-line.”

“A lot of people are a lot worse off than us but the only outdoor exercise we are getting just now is going out on our own and running for an hour so it is a strange time. Playing FIFA helps long days go quicker.”
