Sky Sports Jeff Stelling was left red-faced when he told viewers "despite losing 2-1 to Peterhead, Alloa stay top" not realising they had increased their lead to eight points. The BBC also reported that Peterhead had won 2:1 even putting up a league table with Peterhead moving up to fifth.

This led to bookies paying out on a Peterhead and a Alloa win, the worst thing was that distant Bloo Toon fans were frustrated that a 10-man Peterhead side had not got another away win.

Peterhead started with the same side that disappointed against Brechin with the injured Nicky Clarke returning to the side. Peterhead had there strongest substitute bench of the season with Graeme Sharp, Paul Emslie, Callum McDonald and new signing Connor Gethins joining young keeper Kieren Wilson.

Peterhead created early chances but two Barry Wilson dangerous crosses to the box were swept clear and then Alloa goalkeeper David Crawford saved a strong shot from Martin Bavidge. Alloa applied pressure and on 29 minutes they took the lead when Stuart Noble slotted home Bryan Prunty's through ball just beyond Bloo Toon goalkeeper Paul Jarvie.

Peterhead fight back took a further knock on 33 minutes when Neil McVitie was injured and replaced by Paul Emslie, however a minute later Peterhead equalised when David Donald crossed from the right for Nicky Clark to first-time a seven-yard shot past home goalkeeper David Crawford on 34 minutes.

All the hard work to get back in the game was thrown away four minutes later when on-loan Rangers man Paul Emslie was then sent off after lashing out at Prunty as he lay on the ground. Young Emslie only lasting seven minutes on the pitch and put the team on the back foot.

Peterhead battled well but were further hampered when David Donald was injured and caused a reshuffle the defence, Alloa passed up chances. With 11 minutes remaining the Wasps grabbed their winner from Scott's half volley deflected off Callum McDonald and flew into the net.

Peterhead manager Neale Cooper said: "We killed ourselves with the red card, which was stupid, I'm angry at some of the players. After we lost a goal we looked all right when we scored the equaliser five minutes later. Then came the sending-off, which meant we were left to battle. The effort was there from our players but Martin Bavidge, although working hard, was too often left on his own up front. We have got to be stronger and that means getting a result at home to Dumbarton."
